Office Supply Program Case Study:

Customer: Large pharmaceuticals manufacturer of prescription, over-the-counter and generic drugs with multiple US-based subsidiaries

Business Challenge: Prior to the APD award, the customer had multiple suppliers providing office supply products to their locations and several of their business units managed their own separate programs.   Each unit had different ordering, billing and delivery methods.  The company wanted to centralize its purchasing, standardize its product assortment and streamline its program.

The APD Solution: APD successfully rolled out a nationwide office supplies program to the customer and its various subsidiaries.  APD was able to allow them to maintain the pieces of their previous program that they enjoyed while enabling them to incorporate additional features and a more standardized approach to this category.  During the ten week rollout using our detailed implementation plan, APD’s lead project manager spearheaded the setup and launch of the total program, which included:

  • Ariba, URL and fax ordering – moving the customer to over 98% electronic ordering
  • Online ordering for their remote sales force
  • An Employee Personal Purchase Program
  • A Green Ordering Program that encouraged employees to reduce the number of deliveries by consolidating their orders, thereby reducing packaging and emissions
  • A mix of desktop and dock delivery, per location requirements
  • Various billing and payment methods, per location requirements
  • A customized website with standardized corporate ordering parameters and business rules with the ability to be adjusted by individual business units’ procurement teams, as needed
  • Custom management reporting with quarterly reviews of ongoing cost savings opportunities and recommendations for product standardization and core list rationalization
